Director Gunasekhar will be wielding the megaphone for ‘Shaakuntalam’ after the historical film ‘Rudramadevi’. Samantha Akkineni is roped in, to essay the role of Shakuntala in the film based on Mahakavi Kaalidasa’s epic saga of King Dushyanta who falls in love and marries Shakuntala in a forest only to forget her later. Finally, the story ends on a happy note when the king remembers his queen and reunites with her.
Neelima Guna will produce the movie under Gunaa Teamworks. The production house has released a motion poster on the eve of New Year confirming ‘Samantha’ for the role of Shakunthala. However, the actor who plays Dushyanta is not yet announced.

Earlier, Pooja Hegde was also considered for the role by the director but Samantha is finalized. Mani Sharma will score the music for this epic love story.
The 33-year-old actress is winning the hearts of the audience by portraying women-centric roles and her last film was ‘Jaanu’. She has few more projects under her kitty like ‘Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal’ in Tamil and so on.
