Exactly fifty years back, Akkineni Nageswar Rao’s ‘Dasara Bullodu’ hit the screens for Sankranti and it went on to become a rampaging hit in ANR’s career. VB Rajendra Prasad’s Jagapathi Art Pictures banner produced the movie which released on the 13th of January 1971. Interestingly, he wielded the megaphone for the film by making a debut as a director.
The chemistry between Akkineni Nageswar Rao and Vanisri created magic on screen. Especially, the romance, songs, and dances took the audience by pleasant surprise. Because they never experienced such energetic duets on the silver screen till then. Finally, it remained a trendsetter in Telugu cinema.
On this occasion, Rajendraprasad’s son and lovely actor Jagapathi Babu spoke about this film. The ‘Gayam’ hero said that the banner ‘Jagapathi Art Pictures’ was launched in 1958 after his grand father’s name. He revealed that he was six years old when the movie was released.
Sharing a few moments about the success of the film, Jagapathi Babu remembered that people used to call his dad ‘ Dasara Bullodu’. And also, he explained how people used to throng the Dasara Bullodu car also. He proudly stated that he even drove that iconic car later in his life.
Jagapathi also explained that ANR was the reason for his father to don the director’s hat for the movie. My father VB Rajendra Prasad could not find a proper director for the movie. Seeing this, legendary Akkineni Garu suggested my father direct the movie. Without ANR’s support, he wouldn’t have turned a director.’ said the handsome actor.
Finally, Jagapathi Babu extended Sankranti wishes to only good people. ‘These days vicious anyway are finding their ways to live. Hence, I am wishing people with good hearts who find it tough to sustain among them.’ expressed the actor.
