Lyricyst Vennelakanti Dies at Age of 63

Vennelakanti Rajeswara Prasad popularly known as ‘Vennelakanti’ was a popular Telugu cinema lyricist and he breathed his last with cardiac arrest at the age of 63 in Chennai on Monday.  He is survived by his wife and two sons.

The veteran has penned over 2000 songs and also wrote dialogues for about 300 films in his three-decade-long illustrious career. Born in 1957 at  Nellore, ‘Vennelakanti’ made his debut as a lyricist in 1957 with ‘Sri Rama Chandrudu movie.

He wrote lyrics in a few popular films like Aditya 369, Gharana Bullodu, Samarasimha Reddy, Criminal, and Takkari Donga. The last film he worked for was Keerthy Suresh’s ‘Penguin’ movie which released on OTT during the lockdown.

SP Balasubramaniam encouraged Vennelakanti to take up a career in films and he wrote dialogues for several dubbed films especially for Kamal Haasan in films like Panchatanthiram, Pothuraju, Mumbai Xpress, Dasavatharam, and Manmadha Baanam.

Several celebrities and people from the film fraternity extended their deep condolences to the family members of the legendary lyricist.
