Ace director Shankar announced the ‘Anniyan’ Hindi remake with Ranveer Singh. A day after this announcement, producer V Ravichandran who bankrolled the original in 2005 under Aascar films, has stated that it is illegal. Claiming that the original Tamil rights are still with him, Ravi Chandran appealed that Shankar had to stop the proceedings immediately.
Further, the producer added that he never expected Shankar to stoop down to a low level by resorting to such unlawful acts. Moreover, he also threatened legal action against the director.
The statement released by Ravichandran read,’ I am utterly shocked to know that you are likely to undertake the direction of a Hindi film by adopting the story of the movie, Anniyan. You are well aware of the fact that I am the producer of the said movie Anniyan. The entire story rights were purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline. As such, any such adaptation or remaking or copying the main plot of the said movie, without my permission, is totally illegal.’
The lavish producer also blasted the director by stating that he is trying to reap the accolades of the successful movie without informing him. ‘I am sure you always maintain certain ethical values, hence I wonder how can you stoop to a low level by resorting to such unlawful acts.’ added the producer.
Ravi Chandran Aka Aascar Ravichandran stated that a legal notice will soon follow this open letter to director Shankar.
