Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Thursday that the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke award will be honoured to Superstar Rajinikanth. Announcing the news, Minister wrote ‘Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema Rajnikant Ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic I thank Jury @ashabhosle@SubhashGhai @Mohanlal@Shankar_Live #BiswajeetChatterjee.’
Making his debut in 1975 with Apoorva Ragangal in Tamil, Rajini went on to become one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema. In his four and a half decades career, Rajini acted in several languages including Telugu and Hindi as well. And still, he is going strong by doing Annaatthe.
Besides, Rajinikanth kept many anticipating his political entry but put them all to rest by cancelling his plans to launch a party in December 2020. Born to a Maharashtrian family, Shivaji Rao Gaekwad is his original name and worked as a bus conductor in Bengaluru before entering films.
Rajini’s friend and actor Devan recently revealed that a girl named Nirmala helped Rajini to pursue his career as an actor by encouraging him to join an acting school in Chennai. However, the Superstar lost contact with her and still has a special place for the then MBBS student in his heart.
